Apis Arborea is pioneering a radical reimagining of human-honeybee coexistence. This California-based organisation is championing the rewilding of wild honeybees—our vital, hardworking pollinators—by restoring their natural habitats and self-willed ecological processes. Their work is vital in an era where industrial beekeeping threatens the very lives of honey bees themselves, as well as native pollinators and ecosystems, while climate change accelerates species extinction.

How can humans support honeybees without disrupting their natural behaviours? Apis Arborea’s answer lies in TreeNests—log hives designed with biomimicry in mind to replicate wild nesting conditions. Unlike conventional hives, these structures honour honeybees’ innate preferences, fostering resilience and around 70% survival rates in wild populations (compared to 30-50% in managed colonies).
