The Global Rewilding Alliance welcomes Naturefuture, a platform for amplifying funding for conservation across India. Their digital platform serves as a bridge that connects corporations and philanthropists with diligently vetted NGOs working for nature recovery. Through funding matchmaking, and beyond, their team is dedicated to the scaling of longlasting, impactful restoration of India’s unique wildlife and ecosystems.
This week, the Global Rewilding Alliance proudly welcomes Naturefuture into our ever-growing network. Operated by the Earthfuture Foundation, this innovative platform addresses a critical challenge: empowering local NGOs with the visibility, resources, and partnerships needed to scale their profound impact.

The Power of Grassroots Restoration Efforts
India’s ecological tapestry is as diverse as its cultures, with countless community-led initiatives working with determination to restore wetlands, revive forests, and protect endangered species. Yet these grassroots organisations frequently operate in obscurity, their efforts constrained by limited access to funding and communication barriers. Naturefuture recognises that true ecological transformation requires systems that elevate local expertise and channel resources where they create the deepest impact.
Strategic Matchmaking
Naturefuture’s digital platform serves as a bridge that connects corporations and philanthropists with diligently vetted NGOs. By showcasing diverse projects ranging from grassland restoration to protecting the critically endangered Hammerhead Shark, they make restoration investable and accessible. This democratisation of funding is particularly vital in India, where resources often bypass smaller, community-rooted initiatives.

Understanding that support extends beyond funding, Naturefuture equips NGOs with essential skills in storytelling and donor engagement. That way, the deep ecological knowledge possessed by local scientists and researchers is brought to the forefront of communications, and the significance of their work amplified. Naturefuture helps translate technical expertise into compelling science-backed narratives that resonate with Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) objectives and philanthropists.
Educating for Deeper Engagement
A significant portion of Naturefuture’s work involves guiding funders beyond superficial understandings of nature recovery work. They challenge reductionist approaches that equate restoration with simple tree planting, and instead foster an appreciation for complex, science-backed initiatives that create lasting systemic change.
Often, this results in a shift of focus to community-centered solutions. Naturefuture is committed to contextual solutions that address interconnected challenges – from women’s livelihoods in forest communities to sustainable human-wildlife coexistence models.

As Inger Andersen, the UN Under-Secretary-General and UNEP Executive Director, says: “Nature conservation has been considered perhaps a stand-alone issue, but today we can simply no longer think this way. Protecting nature is not in competition with any of the SDGs. They all have to be dealt with together.” The work of Naturefuture embodies this sentiment as they go towards holistic, context-dependent solutions with vigour!
With a lean but dedicated team, Naturefuture has already begun transforming India’s restoration landscape. They are cultivating an ecosystem where grassroots leaders shape the nature recovery agenda, supported by funders who recognise the value of local knowledge and community-driven solutions.
