After 2 and a half years in the making, the University of Manchester is launching the world’s first MSc in Nature Recovery, Restoration, and Rewilding. This groundbreaking program is designed to tackle the urgent global biodiversity crisis through rewilding and ecological restoration. This course is the first of its kind, offering a unique blend of practical, field-based learning and interdisciplinary insights into nature restoration.

Over the course of the program, students will explore the powerful potential of rewilding and restoration efforts that help heal ecosystems and reconnect people with nature. The curriculum includes exciting modules like Environmental Restoration, Rewilding: Principles & Practice, and Planning for Nature Recovery. Students will also engage with real-world examples of restoration projects during field visits to a variety of ecosystems – in collaboration with our 250 (and growing) alliance partners.

What makes this program stand out is its focus on both the scientific and technical aspects of ecological restoration, and also the social, cultural, and policy factors that influence successful rewilding initiatives. Students will gain hands-on experience while learning from top experts in the field, including those specializing in peatland science, ecosystem resilience, and human-nature relationships.

The course is designed for anyone passionate about making a tangible difference in the rewilding world, and graduates will be prepared for a wide range of roles in the public, private, and non-profit sectors. Applicants from a variety of subject areas are welcome to apply to reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the programme.
