Rewilding is happening now all over the world, both on land and at sea, bringing back key species and restoring entire ecosystems at all scales. We are now an alliance of over 200 organisations that are restoring nature around the world.
This week we introduce you to a new Alliance Partner that, through engaging storytelling and in-depth features, highlights rewilding initiatives that restore habitats and biodiversity.
We warmly welcome REWILDING SOUTHERN AFRICA!
A Champion of Nature and Storytelling
Launched in April 2023, REWILDING SOUTHERN AFRICA is an upmarket quarterly publication founded by award-winning publisher Erika Alberts, videographer Meldt van der Spuy, and passionate environmentalists Drs Peter and Pamela Oberem. Through engaging storytelling and in-depth features, the magazine highlights rewilding initiatives that restore habitats and biodiversity. Their work inspires action by celebrating nature’s resilience and connecting readers to the urgent need for nature’s recovery.
REWILDING is dedicated to:
1. Providing a platform for conservation efforts: To showcase the initiatives of government, private landowners, and non-profit organisations across Southern Africa and beyond.
2. Offering information to private wildlife owners: To provide valuable insights about technologies that assist in rewilding and ecosystem restoration efforts.
3. Celebrating remarkable people: To highlight the stories of individuals involved in local and global conservation initiatives, showcasing their dedication and impact.
4. Promoting discussion on controversial topics: To encourage open dialogue on issues such as breeding non-endemic sub-species for translocation to other African countries for repopulation.
5. Introducing readers to the wildlife economy: To explore the economy that drives rural development and prosperity through the sustainable use of wildlife assets.

Their latest issue, Resilience Beyond Dunes, delves into the ecosystems and species of arid landscapes, offering insights into the unique flora and fauna that thrive in these challenging environments.
In a recent editorial, Protecting Our Oceans, the magazine announced its partnership with The Global Rewilding Alliance:
“Today, we are delighted to announce our association with The Global Rewilding Alliance as an official partner. The Global Rewilding Alliance is a worldwide organisation that collaborates with rewilders on every continent, aiding nature in healing itself and securing a thriving future for people, nature and our planet.
By fostering the return of numerous wildlife species and working hand in hand with indigenous and local communities, rewilding is actively restoring healthy ecosystems. These functional ecosystems capture vast amounts of carbon, provide fresh air and clean water, and stabilise extreme weather patterns – vital for our prosperity, survival and security. Rewilding offers practical hope through real, positive action. Nature possesses an incredible ability to rebound, but it needs our help.
This is a call to organisations, environmental scientists, policymakers, businesses and concerned citizens to unite in creating a rich, diverse and resilient world. Our own motto, ‘Greener, Wilder, Kinder,’ encapsulates our vision and commitment. Join us in celebrating this new partnership and the exciting future it promises for rewilding efforts across Southern Africa and beyond. Conservation is everyone’s legacy and concern – enjoy this journey with us.”
We are thrilled to welcome them to the Alliance.
